We are pleased to announce the publication of a third-party verified Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for D-Carb® CEM II/A-LL 52.5N, a lower-carbon white cement solution within the Aalborg White portfolio produced by Aalborg Portland Malaysia (Cementir Group).

The EPD provides independently verified environmental information based on a life cycle assessment, offering industry users and project stakeholders transparent and reliable data for evaluating the environmental impact of construction materials and white cement-based products.

Developed to support decarbonisation efforts across the value chain, D-Carb® delivers a reduced carbon footprint while maintaining the high strength performance, whiteness and enhanced rheology. The white cement is particularly suitable for applications requiring high aesthetics, smooth surface finishes, and consistent performance.

D-Carb® delivers approximately 12% lower CO₂ emissions compared with AALBORG WHITE® CEM I 52.5N, providing a reliable solution for manufacturers and project teams seeking to reduce embodied carbon without compromising performance. The product supports a wide range of applications, and specifically for wet cast concrete, semi-dry cast concrete, dry mix products, cast-in-situ concrete and special applications including traditional and innovative technologies.

Supporting Lower-Carbon Development in Australia

For decades, the Australian cement industry has embraced the use of supplementary cementitious materials in cement manufacturing to improve product performance, utilise industrial by-products, and reduce the environmental footprint of cementitious materials. Fly ash from coal-fired power generation and slag from steel manufacturing have been widely incorporated into grey cement products for these purposes.

As greenhouse gas reduction targets continue to gain importance across the construction sector, alternative fuels and raw materials are receiving increasing attention for their ability to support lower-carbon construction.

While fly ash and slag are commonly used in grey cement applications, their use in white cement is limited due to colour requirements. Limestone, which is naturally white and a key constituent of white cement, provides an effective alternative. Combined with advanced grinding aid technologies, limestone can be used to produce white limestone cements with performance characteristics comparable to those of ordinary Portland white cement.

Supported by independently verified EPD documentation, D-Carb® demonstrates how limestone-based white cement technologies can contribute to reducing embodied carbon while maintaining the high performance characteristics, supporting industry end users advance their decarbonization targets through a smooth transition to lower carbon products.
